Edward P. Butler

I received my doctorate from the New School for Social Research in 2004 for my dissertation “The Metaphysics of Polytheism in Proclus”. Since then, I’ve published regularly in academic journals and edited volumes, primarily on Platonism and Neoplatonism and on polytheistic philosophy of religion. Most of this work is available on this site on the Philosophy and Theology pages. I also have a strong interest in Egyptian theology, and this site hosts my Theological Encyclopedia of the Goddesses and Gods of the Ancient Egyptians, with entries on over 150 Egyptian deities. I wrote Noēseis, a regular column for Polytheist.com, a site which is presently on hiatus, and am an associate editor of Walking the Worlds: A Biannual Journal of Polytheism and Spiritwork and of Socrates.

I also had a LiveJournal, where I am no longer active, but which is a repository of some older informal writings of mine. These writings have been migrated to a Dreamwidth page, where occasional informal writings may continue to appear.

Those interested in supporting my work can contribute via PayPal. I also offer proofreading and editing services at flexible rates.
